“We preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalm 19: 7-10
SALVATION IS OF THE LORD Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1.6
Nothing more clearly reveals to us that salvation, sanctification, and redemption are the work of our God than to observe the efforts and failure of those who TRY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WORK FOR THEMSELVES! The disciples asked, "Lord, who then can be saved?" He said unto them, "WITH MEN THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE; but with God all things are possible." It is impossible in the flesh for a man to please God. Yet millions, ignorant of the righteousness of Christ, still go about to establish their own righteousness and WILL NOT SUBMIT to the righteousness of God, which is Christ Jesus, our Lord. Many keep up this masquerade to the judgment and then plead their works (Matt. 7: 21-23) before God; but most finally lose interest, keep their names on church rolls, and play church on special days. When they die, their preachers try to find some cause on which to give their families hope; but that, too, is impossible; for IF CHRIST IS NOT IN YOU, there is no hope of glory. "But HE HATH BEGOTTEN US again unto a living hope" (I Pet. 1:3). Pastor Henry Mahan
ADOPTION Adoption is a privilege that exceeds all others. It is better to be a son than to be a saint. Angels are saints, but not sons. They are servants. It is better to be a child of God than to be redeemed, pardoned, and justified. It is great grace to redeem from slavery, to pardon criminals, and justify the ungodly; but it is another and a higher act of grace to make them sons; and which makes then infinitely more honorable, than to be the sons and daughters of the greatest potentate upon earth; yea, gives them an honor which Adam had not in innocence, nor the angels in heaven, who though sons by creation, yet not by adoption (Gal. 4:4-6).John Gill
Fading Glory and Lasting Glory And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts (2 Corinthians 3.11). It is only the greater and lasting glory of Christ and His gospel that will convince a person to let go of whatever weak and temporary glory he presently clings to.Is a man enamored of the law?He will remain so until the glory of the gospel eclipses that glory of the law.Is a man absorbed with the subject of his own righteousness? That shall remain unchanged until the glorious Sun of Righteousness rises on his soul.A man never gives up anything until something better comes along. The gospel is that something better. When the gospel is preached, those whose eyes the Spirit has opened see the greater glory of it and gladly embrace it while letting go of what they previously held.Until the greater glory is revealed, men will cling to their lesser glories.Pastor Joe Terrell
GOD’S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2Cor. 12:9).
What a glorious promise is given to every believer. God’s grace, given through our Lord Jesus Christ is all sufficient to the saving purpose of His people (Acts 15:11). Grace is never said to be insufficient but always sufficient to accomplish its intent, purpose and glorious end (2Tim. 1:9).Sufficient, enough, plenty and adequate to justify (Rom. 3:24), to redeem (Eph. 1:6-7), to supply all our every need (Phil. 4:19), to sustain us through all trials (Heb. 13:5) and to strengthen us when weak (Heb. 4:16).This mighty and sovereign grace appears to us most glorious, sufficient and appreciated when we realize our own weakness, inability and utter helplessness before God(Rom.7:24-25). “Most gladly therefore,” do we rejoice in our own infirmities, and weakness that the power of our Lord Jesus Christ may rest upon us (Rom. 1:16), or tabernacle over us (Psa. 27:5), sheltering (Psa. 46:1), preserving (1Peter 1:5), protecting us from all adversaries and enemies of the gospel(John 10:2-30).Thank God for His unfailing, everlasting and all-sufficient grace (Rom. 8:37; 1Cor. 15:57; 2 Cor.9:15).
CONSIDER WHAT GOD HAS SAID "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things" (2Tim. 2:7).
No man has in himself an understanding in spiritual things (1Cor. 2:14). If we would have any understanding in the mysteries of the gospel it must be revealed (Matt. 11:25). However, let us never forget that God has been pleased to reveal Himself to us through the Word written (Heb. 1:1-3), and the Word preached (2Cor.4:6; 1Cor.1:21). Therefore, let us carefully consider, meditate, examine, weigh and receive the Word of God and the Lord will give us understanding in all things (1Thes. 2:13). The Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2Tim. 3:15). Listen to the inspired words of David, "O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation (Psalm 119:97-100). It certainly would be true, that the person who refuses to consider, meditate, believe and receive the Word of God shall never have any understanding in the mysteries of the gospel of Christ, nor true repentance toward God, nor genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21; Rom. 10:17; Jas.1:17).
