The events of life that affect a pastor affects what he preaches though many don't know the specifics of his thoughts from week to week. Having been in contact and prayer with a fellow pastor this week, the Lord speaking to one of our members, and dealing as we all do with problems in our families this verse came to mind. "Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest." This ve...rse chooses many verses of scripture, ties in with many that even include men like David. "Be of good courage" Courage MUST never be forsaken by the child of God!
Where does courage come from? Courage is being fearless, having valor, and the ability to stand in the difficulties of life. Moses could not lead the people into Canaan as he struck the rock in anger and Joshua stands in his place. The majority report was faithless while the minority report came from two men which included Joshua saying "enter in...God will give us the land!" "Jesus saves. Be of good courage and stand in valor!" Courage ALWAYS finds its root in "I am thy God" and our trust is ALWAYS found in Jehovah God! he land of Canaan was inhibited with nations and had fortified cities inside it, YET God told them to enter into the land! Words from Joshua that must be applied to our Lord Jesus Christ as well being the typical picture of the real reality. "Be of good courage I will not leave you!" Not just a Bible story but a Word we must listen to. What stood before Joshua? What stood before the Lord? What stands before us...you and I?
Though Abraham was a stranger in the land, he knew that it belonged to him. A picture of Heaven that he knew was his also. And our pilgrims journey is sometimes the valley of the shadow of death....it is the "bad" news we receive or hear, the doctor report, or the spot that is seen on an x-ray. "And be of good courage it belongs to you in Christ!" Many in the past saw the edge of the sword, were mistreated, wandered destitute, were completely forsaken....but the Lord your God is with you ALWAYS! He providentially guides us and we will not fear as we are uplifted on a rock!
Be of good courage, courageous, and strong for the Lord is with us! The walls of Jericho tumbled down, David indeed killed Goliath, and the people were given the land when they entered in finally. The picture of the reality. The battle has been fought and won already and victory is ours....over troubles, sickness', and even the grave. "I am your God whenever and wherever you go....Be of good courage!!!"
