The sermon is preached to the 'good church goer'. The person who is living life in wilful denial of the reality that awaits them in eternity. It is a gospel call to them to hear the truth concerning their present, not future, condemned state. It is a gospel call to them to hear the truth that regardless of all their church going, they will be ushered into the appalling prospect that is Hell. That poverty stricken place of perpetual pain where they will experience nothing except the angry presence of God for all eternity.
