I believe that our depravity is no more conspicuous,in any other trait, than in our selfishness. Men left to their own desires, will and can only choose and act what benefits one's own self and every social and political ill known to man can be traced back to a collection of people who are only motivated by a love for self. At the very heart of true morality that leads to social prosperity and political uprightness is a love for one's neighbor and a willingness that others would prosper more than one's self. However, we have arrived at a condition in our nation and in the professed church in America that can be defined as that which is diametrically opposed to that which would be moral because, morality, in our culture, has been defined as that which benefits ourself to the detriment of others and this mindset has saturated every part of our society. This can be seen in the lack of any moral standard that our candidating politians are held to and in our operating philosophy that causes us to persue pleasure, comfort and entertainment at any cost and when persued or obtained every proper judgment of what would be good for the greater society is abandoned and even perceived as deviant behavior. How have we arrived at such a deplorable condition? We have arrived here because those who speak from our nations pulpits have found it more expedient to teach men how they can improve their lives rather than teaching them of the Glory of God. On one side of the spectrum we have the majority of our nations "preachers" who are no more than psychiatrists or motivational speakers. However, on the other side so many have criticised false teachers like Joel Osteen and have subtlety done the same thing and this can be evidenced in the fact that the majority, of those who would be under more theologically sound teaching, are only living in order that they might better their lives, instead of living only to obey God. This great tragedy has happened because we have failed to see that the Bible is and must be in our thinking, the revelation of God, revealing Himself to man and if our motivation to be Christian is anything other than knowing this great and glorious God of the Bible then we are only playing church. When God is revealed to a man then nothing else matters, but to know Him! And we know God first by having some grasp of the attributes of God in general and then in the revelation of The Lord Jesus Christ. May God grant us the ability to forsake all and to spend the whole of our lives seeking Him and making Him known.
