1. Paul told the Ephesian Elders to “be on guard for yourselves....” Why is this so necessary? What kinds of things do you need to guard against and how can you accomplish this?
2. How do Deuteronomy 4:9 Proverbs 4:23 relate to the need to guard ourselves? How might your life and ministry be effected if you do not guard yourself?
3. In light of this passage, how can you pray for your spiritual shepherds?
4. Why is false teaching such a serious threat to the flock of God? What things can the “sheep” do to help prevent an attack by “savage wolves”?
5. Read Revelation 2:1-5 (written around 30 years after Paul’s meeting with the Ephesian Elders.) What did the Ephesian church do well and what did they fail at? What was the prescription for their failure?
6. In light of the last question, why is it so important to maintain both sound doctrine and a deep love of Christ?
