We've all heard the example, haven't we? Standing in a garage doesn't make you an automobile. So sitting in church doesn't make you a Christian. Well even the days of Christ had this problem. You had the super elite and they were educated and studied under the most famous teachers and they not only knew the Law but added even more rules to show extra piety. They prayed on street corners for all to see and the made themselves look decrepit when they fasted. They rang their coin purses when they gave and they were able to spot others' sins with clarity.

Jesus gave a parable showing these types of men in Luke 18. Those types of people proclaimed to God that He was lucky to have them following Him. But, Jesus contrasted the uber-religious with the man who was humble and understood his place as a sinner before God.

"I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." (Luke 18:14)
