We live in a day where rebellion is looked on as favorable. It's ingrained in our national history where freedom from England was won by rebels. It's in our movies where rebellion is looked upon in favorable light - Rebel Without A Cause, Easy Rider, The Godfather, etc. We promote and encourage rebellion in our culture and society from fashion to attitude to even things like belief in post-modern thinking.

The Christian understands rebellion. Sin is rebellion against God. Before salvation, bestowed upon us by God, we were haters of God. But Christians are rebels as well. We rebel against the very nature of man - the nature of sin. Christians are called to live lives of rebellion with Jesus Christ. John 17:16 "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." Today, Christians can rebel against this world and ever increasingly the world is becoming more vocal in their hatred for that. We rebel, for example, when we claim that God has spoken to man in history and that He has preserved His Word. The Bible should be heard and followed because it is the owner's manual for the Creator of the universe.

We are all rebels and former rebels of something. We must choose to rebel against the empty so that we may embrace that which is full. And that's the topic that Pastor John Samuel Barnett discusses today.
