The deterioration of dress began in the 1960s. It has become popular now for the most conservative and especially reformed pastors to make a show of taking off their coats (before they even get hot, and in AC buildings) in the pulpits and joining their congregation in 'dressing down for church'. It is a mark in particular among 'New Calvinists'. Do today's Christians imagine Spurgeon would be coatless or in a golf shirt or jeans while preaching the holy word?
