There is a holy discontent today. There is a famine in the hearing of the Word of God. People just want to be part of a church where the Bible is preached. A place where there is milk but also meat. Superficial slogans, programs and gimmicks may draw a crowd but they do not feed His sheep and grow a true church. God is not a means to our end. He is not a cosmic vending machine. We need to surrender to His will in love and devotion. What are we to believe, and be, and do as a church? I am real and all I want is real. Fake won't help me now or in the end. The church should be a family of partners in the gospel. A partnership within the local church is different from membership at your local fitness center. Christians do not join a church because of the benefits they receive upon membership. Instead a partnership is a covenant agreement of like-minded believers who are committed to hold one another accountable to live out the Great Commandment and fulfill the Great Commission. The apostle Paul said, "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now." (Philippians 1:3-4) Our faith is to be lived out in partnership with other believers. Our partnership should center on the gospel. Our partnership should encourage our fellowship with Jesus Christ. The greatest lie ever told was spoken by the serpent in the garden, when he proposed to Eve and Adam that it was possible for people to live independently of God.
