The Law as a conditional covenant was established by God with the nation of Israel at Mount Sinai. The purpose was to direct and control the conduct of Israel as an add-on to the original unconditional covenant of promise that God had made with Abraham. The Law was never a matter of faith, but of conduct unlike and in contrast to the covenant with Abraham. By faith, all that God had promised to Abraham is available to all Jews and those Gentiles who have the faith of Abraham. Saving faith has always been in the revelation of God given to that point in time. The object of faith has now been revealed and focused on the person and work of Jesus Christ since His life, death, burial, and resurrection. Now that Christ has come, the purpose of the Law as the custodian of God's people has been served. God's people are no longer under obligation to the Law.
