Living under the law is compared to living as a child under the household rules and restraints enforced by the child’s guardian. Those living under the law needed to be saved as was accomplished by the coming of Christ because no one could obey the law to perfection. The date of Christ’s coming, described as being in the fullness of time, was determined by God the Father. With His coming the nation of Israel was to move on to maturity, no longer living under the elemental things of the law. Life in a relationship with God was by faith in Christ being led by the Spirit through the Word of God’s fullness of revelation brought to completion in the New Testament.
