Aim: To greatly appreciate what Christ did for us in all His sufferings for His church.
Exegesis: The crucified Christ bore our shame. In sin, we are perverse (vv. 16-18) and polluted (vv. 19-20). The crucified Christ bore our sin. He canceled our works (vv. 21-24), rebellion (vv. 25-26), and debt (vv. 27-28). The crucified Christ bore our sentence through His sacrificial substitution (vv. 29-32a) and forgiveness (v. 32b).
Key verse: v. 24 ''And when they crucified [Jesus], they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take.''
