Exegesis: We are deserving of the pains of hell because of our sedition (v. 42), rebellion (vv. 43-44), violence (vv. 45-46), and designs (vv. 47-48) against God. We are delivered from the pains of hell through the sacrifice (v. 49), savor (v. 50a), and salvation (v. 50b) of Christ.
Key verse: v. 43 ''If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched...''
