Ministering the gospel to others is draining-- physically, emotionally, and spiritually -- for we are involved in intense spiritual conflict. Jesus felt the drain of ministry and so do we. This message is designed to encourage those who are weary from serving the Lord in the spiritual conflicts. From the life of Elijah, the greatest of the Old Testament prophets, we learn how we contract battle fatigue through intense spiritual conflict. But we also learn from the Master Therapist, God Himself, as to how to combat spiritual battle fatigue. God prescribes first and foremost a little rest and relaxation. Take cares of the physical first-- proper rest and nutrition. Then, Elijah retreats to communicate with God. He is challenged by God to replace his faulty, painful thinking with the truth. For it is the truth that not only sets us free, but also rejuvenates us. God then reassigns Elijah, encouraging him to return to activity as soon as possible. This message is to encourage those who are weary to take time to rest, communicate with God, change their thinking, and then be prepared to serve with fresh passion when our church year begins in September. While it's purpose was to encourage us at EBCC, the message is for anyone who is weary from ministry, whose spiritual passion is waning.
