We are now in a portion of Ephesians where Paul is giving specifics on how we should walk or conduct ourselves in everyday affairs. We look at the world around us and many in the church are taking their marching orders by the culture. Maybe this is why one of the most common excuses an unbeliever or non-church goer gives is, “Those people at church do not look or act any different from the rest of the world.” “Hypocrites,” some cry as they watch the church pretend to have her gaze on the Holy One of heaven while being more occupied with Hollywood. Paul continues to address the walk, conduct, or behavior of the believer in this passage today. In the beginning of the fourth chapter, he reminds us that the Christian walk is to be in humility (4:2), unity (4:16), purity (4:17), and newness (4:22-24). While a child of God can fall into sin for a season, he or she is called to confess, repent, and forsake old sinful patterns of living. This morning, my sermon title is, “Walk in Love.” I desire to address the practice, perversion, and participants of His love. |
