Throughout the book of Ephesians, we have been learning about who we are in Christ and how we are to live. Because Christ has done a miraculous work in the heart of a believer, a sinner is made a saint who is called out from this world and different. In chapter 4, Paul has told us the importance of humility, unity, and vitality in the church. Since a church is made up of individual members, it matters what each member believes and how they live. In today’s portion of Scripture, we come to a very practical section where Paul lays down some imperatives for every child of God. We belong to God. We are his children, and God’s children are called to be different from this world. Today, I want us to look at 5 matters of the heart for the new man. The new man, one saved by grace, has been given a new heart with new desires for God’s glory. With the new heart, there is a need for renewed thinking according to the Word of God. This progression of a new heart and renewed mind must lead to new behaviors or habits. The Bible often speaks of bearing fruit. The fruit should reveal that we are a child of the King and enjoy royal living.
