This week, we will be covering Exodus 15:1-10 where we see Moses and the children of Israel's response to the destruction of the Egyptian army. The evening before they had an expectation of their own death, but in the morning, the Israelites saw their deliverance complete. Their response was to sing to the Lord of His glory. God's glory is not just when He shows mercy, but also when He destroys those who rise up against Him and His anointed. Egypt rose up against the covenantal people of God (even as they were disobedient) and God returned their judgment on their own head. They threw baby boys into the river and now God cast Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea. We think of God being love (1 John 4:8) and sometimes that love manifests itself by Him being a man of war and destroying those who attack His people. This is also part of the greatness of His Excellency. The Egyptians rose up to plunder the people of God (who had weeks before plundered them) and God snorts at them and they all perish. If this is what God did to those who rose up against the type of the people of God who had no faith and He desired to kill in His wrath toward them for their idolatry, what should we expect God to do for His beloved bride, the church?
