What depletes our spiritual energy and passion for Christ? Certainly we feel the effects of battle fatigue after a particularly challenging and exhilarating time of ministry. But for the most part, our loss of spiritual passion is due to the daily grind-- the day in an day out living and serving in the trenches where we see little action and results for our labor! So, how do we deal with the daily grind? Paul, in 2 Corinthians 4, gives us the answer! He writes so that we do not lose heart-- that is, give up, fizzle out, lose our passion for Christ. He encourages us to replace our idealistic views of life and ministry with realism!. Ministry is first of all a PRIVILEGE! What a privilege it is to serve the King of kings and Lord of lords! We've been shown mercy and by God's grace have been given a ministry! Ministry is secondly a PARTNERSHIP! Our part is to share the gospel in clear, commendable ways, both by our lifestyle and our lips. God's part is to open eyes to the truth and bring people to faith in Christ. We share; God saves! But a third part of a realistic view of ministry is that it is NOT PROBLEM FREE! We should expect Satanic opposition. We need to accept human frailty as we are jars of clay. And we live and minister in a fallen world where we experience stress, perplexity, opposition, and failures. Now God could have chosen to eliminate all problems and make life and ministry easy for us. But He's not chosen to do so. Instead, He allows us to experience the daily grind of life and ministry so that we trust Him. We come to see that His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses-- that when we are the weakest, that is when God is the strongest.
