We have the privilege of being a nation (Eph. 2:19) - we were strangers and aliens to God's kingdom (Eph. 2:12) - we are now apart of God's covenant people, apart of His kingdom (Phil. 3:20 | Col. 1:13 | 1 Pet. 2:9-10) - This is our true identity
We have the privilege of being a family (Eph. 2:19) - household - those related by kinship (Gal 6:10 | Eph. 2:18, 1:5) - this is a heavenly family so we are all brothers and sisters (Matt. 12:46-50) - Paul shows us how to treat our family (1 Tim. 5:1) - heavenly family is a deeper bond than earthly family (Matt. 10:37)
We have the privilege of being a temple (Eph. 2:20-22) - this is the church - the foundation is the apostles and prophets - these were New Testament prophets revealing mysteries (Eph. 3:3-6 | Col. 1:25-27) - Jesus is the cornerstone - He will either be a stone of stumbling or the rock we fall and rely on - believers are the superstructure - we are joined to union with Christ and fellowship with the saints (1 Pet. 2:4-5) - this temple grows until the last elect comes in - it is holy - so we should live it out (2 Cor. 7:1) - God will destroy those who destroy His temple, the church (1 Cor. 3:16-17) - false doctrine and division all destroy the temple - God dwells in a special way in His church
