Herod stretched out his hand to harass the church by killing James and binding the hands of Peter (Acts 12.1ff). But the chains fell off the hands of Peter as an angel delivered him from prison (Acts 12.11). The praying hands of the church reached Heaven above. When they saw Peter, a tumult arose among them. Peter motioned for silence with his hand (Acts 12.17). The hand of God was with Peter, but against Herod (Acts 12.21-24). This morning we look at the hand of God’s deliverance when we are in the hands of dangerous men. The means of this deliverance is prayer; the manner is up to God.
