But is Paul’s conversion relevant to you and me? It is fine for him but what does it have to do with me? In this wonderful encounter of Jesus and Saul, we learn the way the Lord often and usually deals with each individual He converts. It is eminently instructive and practical but practical on a far deeper level. 1Tim. 1:16, ESV has, “But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.” We’ll look at this verse next week but suffice it to notice that his conversion serves as an example for those who believe. I. The first characteristic is that GRACE is always Unsolicited (9:1-6)! II. The second characteristic is that GRACE Sovereignly Converts (vv. 1-12)! III. The third characteristic of GRACE IS that it is ALWAYS UNDESERVED (vv. 1, 2, 13, 14). IV. The fourth characteristic is that GRACE is ALWAYS PERSONAL (v. 7; cf. 22:9).
