WSC #8: How doth God execute his decrees? God executeth his decrees in the works of creation and providence.
Aim: To come alive as a new creation and serve the body and blood of Christ to the world.
Doctrine: God's eternal purposes are always accomplished by the pronouncement of His word and the provisions of His love.
Exposition: How Jesus wields the swords of God's sovereignty: by choosing the recipients of His protection (vv. 7-8); by providing a sign (vv. 9-10a), a shepherd (v. 10b), and a servant (vv. 10a-13); and by creating a new relationship (vv. 14-23).
Application: Partake in God's purposes by pronouncing to all creation the word of God, and preparing to be used in God's providence of love for the world.
Key phrase: v. 20b ''This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.''
