The gospel is a report. A record. A message of how God rescues sinners through the work of Jesus. It is important that we understand not only the content of the gospel but also the call of the gospel as it goes out into the world, into the ears and minds of hearers. The gospel is like a newspaper. God writes it about himself. He then he enlists us to distribute it broadly. God uses preachers, called and sent by his church, as official ambassadors to herald the gospel to people. He uses all believers to share the gospel that they have come to believe and treasure.
The very act of the gospel's distribution is revealing. As God calls people to repent and believe he shows that he is love; he wants people to hear the good news, believe it, and be saved. Sadly, no matter how good the news is some people simply will not believe it. The call of the gospel shows that people are naturally resistant to good news. But God is not frustrated by our resistance. At his pleasure, he uses the record of the gospel to bring new life to his chosen people.
