Primary reasons for marriage, based on Genesis 2:18-25 are 1) Companionship. As within the Trinity, one major reason God ordained marriage was for companionship. It is not good that man be alone. 2. Help. Another reason is so that they can co-labor together in whatever task God has called the man to do. Man needs the help, woman needs to help. 3. Procreation. Another important commission give to mankind is to be fruitful and multiply, filling the earth with godly children, 1:28a. 4. An additional reason for marriage given in the New Testament is to help us resist temptation in a sex crazed world.
ESV 1 Corinthians 7:2 . . . because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
ESV 1 Corinthians 7:9 . . . it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion.
