In the first century Roman world work relations were incredibly strained. The majority of the work-force was slaves; some sixty million people were forced laborers. As Christianity swept through the empire many people were asking, How can I be a Christian slave, or a Christian slave owner?
While the tragedy of human slavery hasn't been eliminated, our work environments are different. We aren't chained to our jobs, even if we feel that way some times. But workplace relations are often strained. Still, not only does our work matter to God, so does the way we interact with other workers.
Workplace relational conflict is usually an example of failure on two sides. Workers fail to work well despite great difficulties. Managers fail to reflect the goodness of God in their oversight of the workers. Thanks to God's wisdom even the workplace can reflect his beauty and order when Christians employ relational faithfulness in their jobs.
