This is the third week of our very different way of sharing in worship and the Word together. Things are far from normal for us all. And, as we find in our passage before us this week (Mark 14:26-72), when things are far from normal, we don't always respond as we thought we might. When trouble and threats draw near, many withdraw and find themselves weak and fearful, when they had hoped to be strong and courageous. In fact, Jesus tells his disciples they will "all fall away," even the bravest and boldest among them. We all fall down! And yet, in our fears and failures, there is one who is forever faithful– one who, in love, faces the greatest enemy and threat of all… on his own… for our sake. And, having defeated that enemy, we are raised up with him to stand another day – both in life and in death. Not in our own strength or courage, but in him. The same immeasurable greatness of power that raised Jesus from the dead, is at work towards us and within us. In these days, fully aware of our own weakness and failures, may we know the grace of God and stand in the strength of his might.
