As we approach the time where Jesus is arrested we witness the drama of strong emotion from both friend and foe. We witness the heartless hatred of the priests and scribes and chief priests, the uncalculating extravagant love of a woman, the calculating treachery of Judas and the critical indignation of some of the disciples followed by their sorrow and self-doubt.
But from Jesus flowed only a steady, free love - a love that was both fully prepared and fully planned. He knew that in His death all the Jewish Passover meals ever celebrated were about to be fulfilled. He was the Passover Lamb killed to set us free. Just as we need our eyes opened to see the beauty of the woman's extravagant expression of love so our eyes need to be opened to see the beauty of the extravagant outpouring of His body and blood for our salvation.
