'Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water, or do you want a chance to change the world?'-- so asked the late Steve Jobs to John Scully, who at the time was vice president of PepsiCo. John left Pepsi to become president of Apple Computer. 'Do you want to spend the rest of your life fishing for fish, or do you want a chance to change the world?'--so asked Jesus of Peter, James, and John. Jesus issues three calls for Peter to come, follow Him, and in the process change the world one person at a time. In the first call of John 1, Jesus concentrates on Peter's character as his name would be changed from Simon to Peter, or the rock. In the second call of Matthew 4, Jesus would challenge him to become a fisher of men-- a change in career. And in the third call of Luke 5, Jesus summons Peter to make a commitment-- to start doing what Jesus has called him to do, fish for men! While God has not call everyone to full time Christian ministry, He has called all of us to be involved in His fishing business-- to fish at the pond nearest us-- our neighbors, family, friends, co-workers. But to do so demands obedience and commitment to be 'fishers of men'.
