The Mission of Jesus. Luke 3:1-6;4:14-21John the Baptist prepared the people for Jesus by announcing the arrival of the Messiah and calling them to repentance. He preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and urged the people to prepare their hearts for the coming of the Savior. John emphasized the need for a change of heart and a turning away from sin. He baptized the people as a sign of their repentance and readiness to receive the salvation that Jesus would bring. John's message and baptism served as a preparation for the people to recognize and accept Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah. We have a responsibility to help others prepare for Jesus. The Gospel of Luke encourages Christians to pray for others to know the salvation Jesus brings and to see others the way God sees them. In a culture where it seems that everyone has a purpose that's important to them, we have the wonderful opportunity to align ourselves with the only mission that is unchanging, and the only mission with true, eternal significance. Our mission is understood in light of Jesus's mission.
