The Corinthians refused to judge the man involved with his stepmother, but they had no such scruples when it came to other matters and individuals in the church. In those instances they were all too willing to judge, even to the point of seeking legal vindication from the Corinthian court system. The same natural-minded thinking that perceived righteousness in withholding judgment from the one brother led to the opposite conclusion in the case of personal disputes and grievances. Paul recognized that this issue as well resulted from natural thinking, and so had the same resolution, namely applying the mind of Christ. And that meant viewing all things from an eschatological perspective.
