In this week's passage, Acts 27:27-38, as the storm continued to drive the ship with those aboard having little control, they finally came toward land. After the sailors attempted to deceive the rest of the passengers saying that they were going to put anchors from the prow, Paul warned the soldiers that if they let them, everyone but the sailors would perish. Then the sailors and the centurion started to believe him and took action. When Paul then implored them to take food, again they did as he asked and were greatly cheered. In this passage, we see even as God had promised Paul the lives of those on the ship, Paul didn't sit back and ignore his responsibility. He still saw God's will being done through the order that He has put in the world, so Paul could truly say that they would all perish if the sailors were allowed to leave. God's sovereignty never gives us an excuse to ignore our responsibilities.
