The Spirit & Power of Elijah - Message 4 - Faltering Faith Tried by Holy Fire. As Elijah continues to glorify God and defame Baal (the Canaanite god of storms and fire), he challenges Ahab, the prophets of Baal, and the people to a showdown on Mt Carmel. The challenge for the prophets of Baal is simple - the God who answers prayer by sending fire from heaven, He is the true God and should be worshiped. The challenge for the people is to answer the question, "How long will you falter between two opinions?" They were trying to worship God and Baal at the same time, and no man can serve 2 masters. We see that there is work to be done before the prayer is made. Sacrifices are selected, the altar of God is rebuilt, then challenge commences, and then 4 pots of water are poured over the altar. In studying and applying lessons from this text we will see why the altar had to be rebuilt, how Elijah prayed, how God answered, and what happens when faltering faith is tried by holy fire.
