In the book of Job Chapter 27 has perplexed many scholars. THe first half of the chapter sounds like Job as he continues to vindicate himself as one righteous and not wicked. However, in the last half of the chapter Job sounds very much like his friends who have argued that the wicked get what they deserve. This is stregthened by the fact that verse 13 seems to be a direct quotation of his friend Bildad. This seeming conflict in tone has caused some to think that the editor of the book may have misattributed the last part to Job and was actually the last (or missing) speech of Bildad. However, it appears that Job is simply stating the ways in which he agreed with his friends, that wicked get what they deserve. His problem is not that the wicked get what they deserve but rather that the thinks he is not wicked.
