This is a study of the need to gird up the loins of our minds in preparation for suffering for our Lord. The lesson is that we are to be prepared in our minds for suffering for Him and our confidence is not to be in the things of this life but in the sure things of our hope in all His promises to us when He comes back for His body the church. Peter calls us to holiness in all our behavior. Here we look at our instructions as to how to live as the end of all things is at hand. We are to be of a sound mind and sober spirit, for the purpose of prayer. And above all as we face the times that God has in store for us, and especially if they are difficult times, we are to be fervent or boiling in our love for one another. As believers we are called to be hospitable. This is of utmost importance because it shows the work of the Holy Spirit in us as we truly love the brethren. During times of persecution this hospitality is in especially great need and believers must see that they do not fail when it comes to accepting those and caring for those who are in need and have fled from their homes. It is of utmost importance that we use of employ the gifts that God has given to the body of Christ. Each one is to understand that the gifts that God has given by His grace, were given to be used for His will and pleasure. As we begin this study of gifts we look at the use of miraculous gifts in the early church to authenticate the message of the apostles, and how the Word reveals that God witnessed with the apostles through signs, especially to the Jewish people.
