This morning as we look at the ending of the old year and the start of the new year, I want to look at another ending and start. We see in the beginning of Joshua the ending of the life of Moses and the beginning of the time of leadership of Joshua. We also see the end of the journey to the land and the start of living in the land. While this book happens more than 3000 years ago, it is as applicable to us as it was to the children of Israel. It answers our questions that we have even today. Questions like: How can we go on in the sinful world? What does God want me to do as we see people turning away from God? Can we succeed in living the Christian life in this day and age? We will see the same God at work, who is still working the same way and for the same reasons. Let us turn our eyes to God as we study and as we start a new year.
