Last week we started to look at the book of Joshua. Joshua is the biblical account of the conquest of the land of Canaan. It is full of encouragement for believers of all times as we see God working in mighty power. It also shows us the keys to spiritual victory. We see first of all, that God judges sin. He is the judge of the whole earth. No nation / nations or people will escape the judgment of God. Canaan had reached the point where God had said enough. Their lives were so polluted that God would say that the land will spit them up. Yet as Joshua goes to war against them, at the command of the Lord, he is told to hold tight to the Lord. If he does, God promises that he will succeed, if he doesn't, he will fail. The victory will only be 'in the Lord'. Last week we saw that God gave Joshua three encouragements. The first was that God promised that they would succeed in taking the land. The second encouragement was God's provision. He told Joshua to mediate on the word of God and do it day and night. This was the key to his success. Lastly the power to take the land would come from the presence of God. Join us today as we look at the next chapter of Joshua, the spying out of Jericho.
