Christmas is about salvation. We all owe a debt to the justice of God that we cannot pay. God ordained beforehand that His own Son would pay it for His people. Jesus could not die unless he became a man. God, by his very nature, cannot die. But the God-Man, Jesus Christ, could die. Jesus came to redeem us from the rightful demands of God's justice by paying the price we could never pay. Now we are free from condemnation, and therefore free from death. In the death of Christ, God "cancelled the record of debt that stood against us . . . nailing it to the cross." Hallelujah, what a Savior!
