In our ongoing study of what has been called – the gospel according to Isaiah—we come to the 11th verse… In this one single OT verse there are three very, very precious Gospel Realities:
1st – The Gospel Reality of SATISFACTION – when Jesus Christ came into the world, He didn't just come to try to save sinners… He didn't come hoping to save the whole world… He came according to (Mt 1:21) ‘to save His people from their sins.' So Isaiah writes – ‘He shall see the labor of His soul and be satisfied.'
2nd – The Gospel Reality of JUSTIFICATION – ‘By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many…' The whole idea of being justified is the idea of being right before God… being accepted as someone who is perfectly pleasing to God—HOW? – through Jesus...
3rd – The Gospel Reality of SUBSTITUTION – ‘He shall BEAR their iniquities.' The heart and soul of the gospel—is that Jesus Christ took both the place and the punishment for everyone that believes... (v.4) ‘Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows… He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…'
