Today we come to the 7th commandment-you shall not commit adultery. But Jesus makes it clear that the commandment is much broader and deeper than the literal act of adultery. He says in the Sermon on the Mount,
NIV Matthew 5:27 "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
-Certainly the whole cluster of sexual sins is included under the umbrella of the 7th commandment. But we must not miss the specific way in which the commandment is stated. If the 6th commandment has at its heart the sanctity of life, then the 7th commandment has at its heart the sanctity of marriage.
