Ignorance Brings Him Bliss The works of the devil are sometimes obvious. Take a quick look at some of the extreme violence that takes place around the world and it is hard to deny that the devil is living and active. Human depravity alone can cause men to stoop to astoundingly low levels of corruption, but some of what goes on clearly warrants the label “demonic” or even literally “devilish” behavior. But the devil and his minions are quite clever and employ a vast array of tactics in their inherently anti-kingdom activity and subtlety seems to be a favorite tactic of the kingdom of darkness. Graphic terror may produce debilitating fear but the smoother, sneakier operations of the power of evil can promote a stupefying ignorance. Christians must not cater to any of the adversaries tactics. We neither need to fear his power nor do we need to fall for his prowess – but we must be constantly on guard against his wiles. The only way we can have confidence in the face of any of this is when we trust in our Almighty God. We resist the devil in the power of the Lord alone, we decipher his trickery through the wisdom of the word alone and we can keep from falling into his cleverly laid traps by walking in the precepts of His word alone. Don’t be afraid and don’t be fooled trust in your God – after all “if God is for us, who can be against us?”
