Up to this point in chapter 3, Paul has given us two strong arguments for faith alone. The first has to do with our own personal Christian experience, “Did you receive God’s Spirit by working hard or simply by faith?” This of course assumes that you do have the God’s Spirit indwelling you! Do you have any evidence that you have God’s Spirit is living inside of you?
The second argument that Paul gave was the example Abraham’s life and what God had said about him. Abraham was a man of faith. He believed God and God said that his faith counted for righteousness. God declared Abraham righteous. It had nothing to do with what Abraham did for God, it had everything to do with what God said He was going to do for Abraham; and Abraham believed God.
So we left off lastly discussing how that in Abraham the nations will be blessed, and I had said that God was giving Abraham the gospel. Through Abraham’s lineage would come the Messiah. Jesus Christ came to bless all nations. But how did Christ bless all the nations? Today we continue with Paul in verse 10 as he shows us that our blessing comes through Christ being cursed! Christ was cursed so we could be blessed.
