On Today's podcast we will begin looking at a bunch of tips people have offered that may help when witnessing to Christian Scientists. Try to avoid attacking Mary Baker Eddy At least not in the beginning. And this goes for most cult leaders. If you go after leaders like Mohammed, Charles Taze Russel or Joseph Smith, most the people you are witnessing to will see this as persecution and will only get angry. The point is to get them saved, not win an argument. Christian Scientists will often see this as mortal mind resistance to the truth. Always ask questions When talking to someone of any faith we always want to find out what they personally believe. Often you will find that even though they are part of a particular movement, they may not believe exactly as the rest of the group. In order to learn exactly what they believe we need to make sure we understand what they mean by certain key words. As we discussed earlier in this series, Christian Scientists use many of the same Christian terms we do, but they have very different definitions. Always find out what they mean. Another good question is to ask why they believe what they believe. For example, if they say that they believe that sickness is an illusion, ask them why they believe that. As we ask them questions like these we help them think through their position and often they will see holes in their own beliefs. Ask leading questions. If you know what conclusion you would like them to reach, simply ask questions that will lead them to that same logical conclusion. Jesus asked questions to get people to think things through.
