In all my dreaming, I still dream of a day when I could be perfectly pleasing to my Maker, God. The writer of Proverbs says in Proverbs 3:6, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” That is a worthy goal to strive for, but no man ever completely achieves it. Some people come closer than others, depending on how much they work at it, but none are perfect. It would be a sin not to try for the highest mark we can reach.

I hope we will all study Proverbs 3:1-12. He says in verse one to keep his commandments, and continues in verse two to say, “For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.” He reminds us in the third verse that we are to love mercy and truth. He even says we should “bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:” After doing so he says we will find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Direction for our journey is there promised. Most men would make less serious mistakes if they were following God’s light for their life. He warns us not to depend upon our own feeble understanding but follow God’s leadership daily. Many lives have been ship wrecked because people were depending on their own understanding.

He tells us to honor the Lord with the substance he gives us and put him first in all things (Matt. 6:33). Then our Maker says we can have full barns and good crops. Every good and perfect gift comes from God.

Our master goes on to tell us that when we fall into sin he will have to chasten us because he loves us. If we are his children, he will correct us if needed.
