Our Christian lives will be just as strong as we hunger and thirst after righteousness (Jesus). Christ tells us in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” So the question is, how hungry and how thirsty are you? The fountain is flowing for all who will drink of the waters of life freely. God’s banquet table is set for all who will pull up a chair and feast. We can’t blame God for any of our spiritual deficiencies.

Listen to our Saviour speak in John 7:37-38, “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying; if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (out of his innermost being).” Oh my friend, why don’t we let the river flow to and through our souls unto the uttermost parts of our planet? Let the rivers flow! David could say in Psalm 23:5, “My cup runneth over.” Then that old soldier of the cross went on to say, “…I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Every person living today is hungering and thirsting for something. Perhaps you are thirsting for money. Some are so very hungry for name, fame and popularity. Many feast on the garbage of drink, gambling, and immorality. Others are slaves to drugs. Americans are drinking at a million different fountains of pleasure, only to drink finally the bitter dregs from the bottom of the cups! Sin will never satisfy.

God’s river is flowing for you. Will you drink? Why, oh why will man thirst when God’s river of the Holy Spirit joy and power is constantly available to him?
