This is the heart and soul of the Christian life. We speak, we act, we LIVE to please an audience of One. To fulfill the trust committed to us. We must always remember that God is watching our actions, weighing the thoughts and intentions of our hearts and either giving His approval, or His approbation. Here is a chilling realization; while we dicker with each other attempting to justify what God has prohibited, with reminders that "the world is watching us"; our real concern should be that God is watching us. Further, God is NOT watching us from a distance, but from the perspective of knowing our very motives! That God is either pleased or angered by our words and actions, and that He is the only one who will be our final judge of whether we did what was right. He is TESTING our hearts, He is judging our motives, He is appraising the why of it. And the root of motive is ALWAYS love. We are either loving us, or loving God. We are either seeking to please man or God. When we allow the truth to be silenced because of fear that men will not like us; or fear that they may do us harm in some manner; or fear that we will not have the things we want from them; when we hold the opinions of men in higher regard than we hold God, we are loving us. Conversely, we are hating God. Oh, may God have mercy on all of us, for we are such fools! All of us trade the best possible good for the weak empty lies of the enemy at some level. All of us are guilty of this sin... but this very truth is the reason for the gospel. The good news of the gospel is that God has made made a way for our sin to be forgiven. And that way is the shed blood of Jesus, applied to the heart of the penitent sinner. That way is forsaking our sin, and submitting to Christ as Lord. We have been ENTRUSTED with this most precious truth. And this is the message that the world wants to silence, it is the message of real love, it is the message of life, it is the message of hope... and when we will not speak it, not only are we hating God, we are also hating the very ones we pretend to be honoring.
