(Psalm 51:12) “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
Joy is the fruit of a right relationship with God. David had lost his joy because of sinfulness. There is a difference between the Joy of the Lord and the pleasures of self indulgence. The Joy of the Lord and fulfillment cannot be found in the pleasures of the flesh. (Ecclesiastes 2:1-11) gives evidence to the emptiness of that way of life. No, JOY is not just the feeling of self satisfaction and the temporal contentment that comes from circumstantial securities and pleasures. Joy for the Christian is in direct relation to his walk with the Lord. St. Augustine said, to experience true joy we must Love what we have, have what we Love and only Love that which is Good and worthy of our Love.
(Proverbs 14:12-13) “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.”
