(Jeremiah 1:5-6)
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.”

The “call” was upon the prophet before he was created, and he was set apart before he was born. He couldn’t explain it nor deny it. His call, like all others, was the result of Sovereign grace. My sheep, He says, know My voice. Whom He did foreknow He also did predestinate, etc. (Romans 8:29). And yet Jeremiah, again like others, began to make excuse as to why he could not do what God had purposed him to do. He said, “Lord I cannot speak, for I am a child.” Though we may be babes in Christ, children are not expected to be eloquent speakers, but they are expected to be trustful and obedient! All Christians are called to share the word of God with the people God directs them to. Trust and obey!
