Here we have 3 of the most difficult instructions found in scripture, all together, all linked, all frequently misinterpreted, and all of them almost universally ignored. First we must understand that anger itself is not sin. God is angry with the wicked every day, Jesus was angry when He cleansed the temple of the money changers... the anger of God is righteous, holy, pure... but our anger is seldom anger that honors God. Our anger is normally selfish and prideful, based more often than not, on our fleshly desires. So again, we see the consistent affirmation of scripture that the problem is more with our motive than our actions... for most of us this instruction to be angry without sin seems impossible, but the answer is simple. Look at your motive, step back from allowing your emotions to rule, and consider what issues are at stake, but consider them while leaving self completely out of the equation. This act of self-mastery is then the first step towards helping you to not allow the sun to go down on your anger. This is important in that the longer you let your raw emotions govern your actions, the more difficult it will be to ever stop their cruel reign. And the longer they are in command, the more comfortable your heart becomes as the domain of the devil. Beloved, this threefold instruction is really one great caution about guarding our hearts so that we are giving place to the Savior, our great Redeemer and God rather than allowing the dominion of the enemy of our souls!! Guard your heart well, for from it spring the issues of life!!!
