Luke 16:5, “So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?” Here is a question to reflect on this morning. Every Christian owes the Lord so much for all His bounty and kindness. We have nothing but that we have received it from the Lord. Yet we can never tell how great the debt has become. It is immeasurable.
Praise the Saviour, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Issac Watts put it the following way.
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were an off'ring far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
Robert Murray McCheyne once was meditative upon the question and he came to a conclusion that he put to verse.
When this passing world is done,
When has sunk yon radiant sun,
When I stand with Christ on high,
Looking o'er life's history,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
Not till then, how much I owe.
When I stand before the throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see Thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
Not till then, how much I owe.
