Here is the truth of our problem with sin. We are overcome, and we are thus in bondage. It is not that we choose only to sin consciously, per se, but more that we choose the only thing that seems available to us. It is that we follow that influence of the evil one, and his internal ally, self. And he's had a long time to weave the web of our prison... we surrender our freedom, surrender our peace, surrender our hope and all for the sake of a false promise of liberty. The lie goes like this: "Those rules keep you held back from all the good in the world. They make sure that you will not have any fun, any pleasure, any joy... but if you will just follow me, I will make sure that you get everything that you want." The falsehood slides into us like a hot knife through butter, and we are carried away, overcome by its smooth, oily camouflage. It looks so good, so tasty, so full of life. But it is all deception. There is no good found there, no freedom in those arms. There is only havoc and bondage. Because as soon as you allow it a place, you wake to find that it has taken yours. You are bound, you are the prisoner, you are the one with no freedom. But the good news, oh captive, is that Jesus said "He who the Son sets free is free indeed!". Turn from your sin and the captivity that leads only to your destruction, run to the Son, He has purchased your freedom with His own blood. He alone holds the key, and He offers forgiveness and true liberty in Him. Come, be free!!
